Welcome to a historic manor dating from 1690, where Swedish heritage meets a hotel, spa, restaurant, and conference destination beside the Dalälven river.

The history of Söderfors Manor

The main building at Söderfors Manor was built around 1690. It has developed from a manor connected to the ironworks into a modern hotel that retains the character and history of the site.

Today, guests stay in historic surroundings with modern amenities. Ceiling paintings from around 1700 remain in the main building. Claes Depken, later ennobled as Anckarström, founded the Söderfors works in 1676 to make anchors for the Swedish navy. The works expanded under the Grill family, and Söderfors remains an active industrial community.

From forge to hospitality

Söderfors began as an anchor forge in the seventeenth century and supplied the Swedish navy. The manor evolved from an industrial estate into a hotel while retaining its historic character.

Architectural heritage and modern comfort

The Carolingian main building retains original ceiling paintings from 1690. Careful restoration brings the historic rooms and modern comforts together.

The widows’ house

Anna Johanna Grill’s project supported widows and their children and remains part of the estate’s social history.
